But first we want to realise the following outcomes through which the overall objective will be achieved. Overall, we want to ensure that all young people especially girls and young women, are empowered to realize their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in societies that are positive towards young people’s sexuality. What do we want – Overall Objective and Outcomes The geographical areas where the GUSO Programme is being implemented are in four (4) districts (Tamale Metro, Sagnerigu, Gushegu and East Mamprusi) in the Northern region and two districts (Bolgatanga Municipal and Talensi district) in the Upper East region. Young people in the age group 10-24, including underserved categories of young people living with HIV (YPLHIV), young LGBT, young mothers, physically challenged young people, hard-to-reach youth in remote areas and young people in the age group 10-16 years in particular. The environment for young people’s SRHR is relatively conservative fuels negative cultural/religious beliefs and practices which reinforce undesirable social norms, taboos, low status/self-esteem of girls and women and misconceptions on young people’s sexuality, leading to STIs, unintended pregnancies, unsafe abortions and sexual and gender based violence. Majority of these young people do not realize their SRHR needs and their right to participate in decisions that affect them due to restrictions at societal, institutional and political levels.

In Ghana, young people aged 10-24 years constitute about 32% of the country’s population according to 2010 Population and Housing Census. These Organizations include Rutgers, IPPF, Simavi, dance4life, CHOICE and aidsfonds.
